The Reasoning With the opening of SHK on the Horizon, I'm extremely conscious of my own appearance and well being. Although I have been training with the best in the business my own nutrition has been to put it bluntly abysmal, a lads holiday to spain for 5 days didn't help either.
This Monday will see the launch of "The Slims Kitchen Experiment ". I will be following the menu from SHK for 7 weeks wherever and whenever possible. All the while, obviously working on getting the restaurant open and maintaining a normal lifestyle, relationship etc.
I'm not going it alone either!!! I have recruited for want of a better phrase 10 Guinea pigs whom have promised to blog for me on how they are getting on, they range from 19 - late 50's both male and female, some drink some don't, some are Bubblier than others :) they all lead very different lives and the main thing a want to ascertain is how they feel after the 7 seven weeks.

The Experiment Day 1 (Slim)
Random acts of kindness...
Knowing I was starting this whole thing today, finishing djing at 1am decided that the last super was required.
This took the form of a filthy mixed kebab covered in all forms of disgusting sauce. (Not what you expected to be reading in my first blog I bet)
Waking up with a complete food hangover and feeling more than sluggish I had an epiphany, called a friend I knew crazy enough to join me in my crusade and we set off to help people push out the last few miles of the Belfast City marathon. .
I ended up running all in all 15ish miles with various people some friends, some training buddies and some complete stranger that looked like they wanted to quit. I'm expecting a letter in the post asking how I managed to cross the finish line 4 times in one race.
After doing my good deed for the day I walked home with a smile on face knowing I'd helped someone.
Breakfast consisted of a 6 white omelette (2 yolks) mixed peppers, chilli flakes and black pepper
My recovery meal after running consisted of a strong black coffee, a bowl of porridge (approx 50g) water, 2 scoops of optimum Nutrition vanilla whey, 2 heap table spoons of flaxseed, coca, berries!
(This was really really good)
Dinner was a bit of a cop out. I was out for a meal with a group of friends as one of my nearest and dearest is immigrating. We went out for Japanese and bar the unhealthy sauce I was able to get chicken cooked on the tepan and steamed rice!
Not a great start for myself, not getting enough meals in and not having a great quality dinner. I popped in to congratulate the ifit running crew in the bar and did have to deal with the agony of watching them chow down steak sandwiches and fries, so I'm proud of the fact I was able to resist!

Day 1 of Slims Healthy Kitchen Experiment - Well Not Quite!
In the efforts of full disclosure, I have been following a diet plan loosely based on SHKs menu for about 5 weeks. In that time I have been “dieting” in the sense that I’m restricting the junk food I eat and the bottles of Chardonnay I drink (how very bourgeois of me I know). For me, this isn’t meant to be a timed goal orientated experiment, but rather the integration of a healthier alternative, when it could be all too easy to grab a Burrito or Burger.
In terms of my level of activity, I work at a desk 8-6 but I Weight Train 4+ times a week and visit an iFit class a few times weekly. You could say, I’m pretty active. Up to this point, my diet has been the let down. No amount of training will escape the level of food I consumed. As someone else once said: “You can’t outrun your mouth”.
The results to date. I weighed in 1st February at 205lbs. Weigh in on Sunday - 191lbs.
So Day 1 has come and gone. To be fair, it pretty much started off as it always does. Scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast. A protein shake after the gym, Turkey and sweet potato fries (based on the SHK version) and then out to Zen for dinner, where the usual Fried Rice and Monkfish Tails were swapped for Chicken Teriyaki & boiled Rice.
Day 1 done and I don’t feel like I dieted.
